The goal of BioMEMS Technical Activities Committee is to establish guidelines for EMBS regarding the field of BioMEMS.

 

Bio-MEMS, also known as, “Biological Micro-Electro-Mechanical System” combines various micro-fabrication and nano-fabrication technologies with biological systems to address biological and biomedical problems.

 

BioMEMS Technology can be defined as a technology that develop micro-devices and their applicable methodology of artificial physiological organ system for biological and biomedical application such as high throughput drug screening and discovery, precise medical diagnosis, effective drug delivery, medical therapy, and research tools for genomics and proteomics and cell biology as an in-vivo or in-vitro system.

 

BioMEMS applies various technologies and concepts to diverse areas in biomedical research and clinical medicine. BioMEMS is an enabling technology for ever-greater functionality and cost reduction in smaller devices for improved medical diagnostics and therapies as mimic, miniature, smart, and low-cost biological and biomedical devices that could revolutionize biomedical investigation and clinical practice such as micro/nano array and micro/nano fluidics technology, bio sensors technology, micro/nano therapeutic technology tissue engineering technology for tissue repair and implantation, micro/nano

 

Particles and nanoprobes/molecular engineering, bio-materials development bio-defense technology and other micro/nano fabrication technology for research or surgical instrumentation

 

The goal of this committee is to provide a gateway for various BioMEMS related activities to EMBS and its membership. As such, we will develop a special edition journal on Bio-MEMS as well as provide opportunities for networking workshops for various members of EMBS. Also, we will organize symposiums related to BioMEMS.
